Course Details

The Bioprocessing Graduate Certificate provides focused study in bioprocessing systems, laboratory techniques, and biomanufacturing workflows. Students explore the development, analysis, and optimization of biological production systems used in biotechnology and pharmaceutical manufacturing environments while building applied knowledge of process systems and operational workflows.

Delivered in a hybrid format that is approximately 90% online, the program allows students to complete most coursework remotely while participating in a required one-week in-person laboratory experience in Norman, Oklahoma during the final course. This applied laboratory component provides hands-on exposure to bioprocessing equipment, workflows, and techniques used in professional biomanufacturing environments.

Course Structure

Students complete 12 credit hours and graduate with specialized knowledge of bioprocessing systems, workflow evaluation, laboratory methods, and process optimization. All courses are 3 credit hours and last for 8 weeks.

Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology

Credit Hours: 3

Graduate standing in CBME or SBME, or permission of instructor. The course will cover state-of-the-art technologies of manipulating and controlling genes, genomes and cellular pathways with a goal of engineering human (stem) cells and microbes for health, environmental and industrial applications.

Biochemical Engineering

Credit Hours: 3

Current bioprocesses for reaction and separation with emphasis on fundamental principles of chemical engineering, biochemistry, and microbiology.

Tissue Engineering

Credit Hours: 3

Examines the background and recent advances in the science of combining multiple cell types with an appropriate support to provide a construct that can replace or support damaged tissue.

Advanced Techniques in Biomanufacturing

Credit Hours: 3

Biomanufacturing is a multidisciplinary program that requires a strong collaboration among diverse functional groups. This course aims to impact knowledge about biomanufacturing workflow including fermentation, and downstream bioprocessing, with a focus on biological products, design and industrial practices. The main objective is to train students to develop hands-on experience through working with advanced unit operations being used in this field.

  • Submit official transcripts from the college or university where the most recent degree was earned, along with transcripts from all schools where any graduate-level credit was completed.
  • Submit a current resume or CV
