Earning a college degree can be challenging. That challenge is often increased when you have a family, work full time or just waited until later in life to begin pursuing a degree. While online degree programs let you set your own schedule around your day-to-day responsibilities, it is often difficult for many online students to find the support they need to excel in their coursework.
That’s where the University of Oklahoma has you covered. We have been helping distance and online learners reach their academic goals for more than 60 years, so enrolling in one of our degree programs ensures that you’ll have all the support you need.
Before Admission
Even before you apply, your admissions counselor will work with you to understand your goals, both academic and personal, and ensure that you will be on track to reach them with your chosen degree program. Your admissions counselor can answer any questions you may have when filling out your online application to OU, in addition to helping you understand how to request and submit transcripts from any schools you have previously attended. As part of this process, they will be able to conduct a free transfer credit evaluation to determine how many of the credits you may have earned previously from another school or another program at OU will apply to your new program.
While You're Here
Once you have been admitted to a degree program, you will meet your academic advisor and professors.
Outstanding academic advisors
At OU, your academic advisor is more than just the person who helps you create a degree plan and register for courses. Our advisors serve as your primary point of contact for any concerns you have. Your advisor will get to know you as an individual to help you craft a rewarding and successful academic experience. Your advisor will be able to connect you with useful resources throughout the university, discuss transfer credit, and can help you initiate a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) to determine if the work you have done in your career is eligible to be converted into college credit. Our advisors are well versed in the many types of roadblocks that can trip up online learners and often reach out to students to warn them of potential issues or help them maneuver through those obstacles. Your advisor will become a valued part of your academic experience, as they coach, guide and cheer you on as you take each step toward earning your degree.
World-class instructors
No matter which degree program you choose, you will take courses taught by instructors who understand the challenges of taking online courses as a working adult and who will work with you to help you excel in your coursework. Our instructors bring real-world experience to the classroom. Our smaller class sizes allow professors to work with you more closely to help you achieve greater academic success. Whether through discussion boards, email or Zoom meetings, our instructors are known for taking the time to help students understand concepts and provide feedback that will help you develop the skills needed to succeed.
After Graduation
Once you have completed your coursework, you will possess a degree that has recognized value across the nation. With a strong network of alumni and professors with connections within the fields in which they teach, as well as continued support for graduates from the OU Career Center, you will have lots of support in finding opportunities for success in a new career.
According to a 2019 study conducted by Georgetown University, a degree from OU has the best long-term value when compared to all other Oklahoma schools, and it ranks among the top 8% in value among public and private schools in the nation.
Among individuals from the Class of 2020-2021 who were seeking a new job after graduating, 87% reported accepting a position with a median salary of $57,000 within six months, according to the OU Career Center.
