The OU Online M.A. in Art and Technology is a 100% online, 33-credit-hour program that can be completed in as few as 18 months. Rooted in both a theory of art and art history, the program’s comprehensive curriculum bridges the world of art, design, and technology by teaching students how to utilize emerging technologies to push the boundaries of digital creation in the 21st century. Graduates of this program will be able to work as graphic designers, animators, game developers, programmers, and more.

Pursue your Art and
Technology Master's

OU Online’s M.A. in Art and Technology program is structured to give students an understanding of key developments in art history and the adaptation of new technologies in art production. Students will master technological competencies across various software used in the emerging art and technology space and learn to critically evaluate the applicability and effectiveness of different technologies and techniques related to art and design.
Students will use a variety of programming structures and languages in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), including JavaScript, C#, and Python. Using industry-standard software, they will also create moving images, visual effects, and 2D or 3D animation.
Graduates will understand the essential principles of game design to create game environments, experimental narratives, and other interactive media. They will learn to present their work, explaining technical and creative decisions regarding their message and chosen medium.
Students can start in the spring, summer, or fall, joining asynchronous and optional synchronous sessions led by world-class OU faculty. All courses in the program are core courses.

Program Outcomes
As a graduate of the online M.A. in Art and Technology, students will be able to:
- Understand key theoretical developments in the history of art and the adaptation of new technologies in the production of art
- Critically evaluate the applicability and effectiveness of different technologies, topics, and techniques as they relate to art and design
- Apply a variety of programming structures and languages in Object Oriented Programming (OOP), including, but not limited to, JavaScript, C#, and Python
- Create raster and vector-based moving images, animations, and visual effects using industry-standard software
- Master technological competencies across various software in emerging art and technology
- Understand and evaluate essential principles of art and design to create experimental narratives, game environments, and other interactive media
- Students learn to analyze and present their work through the classroom forum, explaining technical, ideological, ethical, and creative decisions regarding their subject and chosen medium.
Getting Started Today
To apply to our online M.A. in Art and Technology, students must hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university (or appropriate international equivalent). Applicants should have general computer literacy to apply to this program.

- Provide official transcripts from all institutions attended
- Artist Statement / Personal Statement
- Please explain your professional creative goals and interests and how they apply to the OU Art and Technology master’s program.
- Help reviewers better understand your portfolio through an artist statement about the work you submit.
- Submit a visual portfolio with at least ten images or media files of your artwork or professional work. Uploaded images are required. A website link may not be used as a substitution for uploaded images. This should be presented as a professional portfolio. Images should be oriented correctly.
- International students must demonstrate English proficiency.

Graduate tuition waivers cannot be applied to OU Online programs. OU Online programs qualify for the OU Faculty/Staff Tuition Waiver & Fee Exemption, and we encourage you to check your eligibility.

Tuition and fees for the program are $26,994 ($818 per credit hour). Books and additional materials are not included.
Once accepted into the program, students must submit a $350 nonrefundable deposit within two weeks. Deposits are applied toward tuition expenses and secure a student’s place in the upcoming class. There is no application fee for this degree
